Characteristics of the Volfyirion 2 vs 2 Game Mode

Hello, backers!

How is everything going? Here at Tabula we are hard at work on the new modes unlocked by our Stretch Goals. After our previous explanation of the Solo Mode — for those who missed it, you can find it in our last update — today we are going to delve into the 2 vs 2 Game Mode. 

In this scenario, the objective will be to destroy the enemy Cities as in the classic game, but in a new challenging way: this time there will be 2 players versus 2 players. Face this perilous journey with an ally on your side and wipe out your opponents Cities!

The most important things to remember about this game mode are the following:

•  Two decks will be required 
• The two decks won’t be shuffled together during the game and each Team will use one. This means that it's quicker to put away all the cards after a game without having to sort out two decks.

New features for the Cities

The two players of each team will be able to combine their six cities either symmetrically or asymmetrically to create 3 Strongholds,allowing 2 Troops and 2 Buildings to be positioned on each Stronghold. The two Cities that make a Stronghold combine their Defense values for increased survivability.

The result will be a new disposition in both Playing Areas: one Stronghold will be in front of one player, one Stronghold in front of the other player and the last Stronghold in a shared area between the two players. Furthermore, some assets will be shared as well between the teammates.

The players will have access to the Stronghold in front of them and to the one in the shared area with their teammate and, subsequently, each player will benefit of the bonuses from the Stronghold in front of them and from the shared Stronghold.

New features for Volfyirion

Volfyirion’s movement will be not only to the Strongholds, but also to one of the two Lairs in game, one for each team.

As soon as Volfyirion reaches the Lair, the dragon will be busy guarding the Wonders with its sharpen claws: we call this the “Volfyirion’s clutch”. The dreadful beast will enhance the cost of the Wonders, making it even harder for the players to acquire them.

Like in the classic game it will still be possible to beat the mighty creature and, once a team manages to defeat it, they will acquire the available Wonder Cards... but beware! As soon as Volfyirion is defeated, both Lairs will collapse to the ground and no one will be able to claim them as Cities.

Solo Mode overview

Hello everyone! After doing a lot of play testing we decided to explain a bit more how the Solo mode we unlocked during the campaign is going to work! 

In this game mode you will represent House Volarees and you will be in charge of defending your three cities by the threat of the ferocious Volfyirion all by yourself. 

The dragon is on a rampage and you will need to keep a cool head to defeat your vicious opponent at its worst. Are you ready to start an exhausting battle against the mighty dragon on your own? The fate of your cities depends on you!

One of the characteristics of the solo play is that the set up is similar to the standard game. Your three cities needs to have different values as in the 1 vs 1 mode, but in addition you need to remove from the game the cards that contain a "Move Volfyirion" icon, all the Perk cards, all Ploy cards and both Saboteur cards.

Your goal is to defeat Volfyirion, and you can do this either by spending 16 Knowledge points to subjugate it or spending 16 Battle points to defeat the beast. Either path you decide to pursue will result in winning the game.

A peculiarity of this mode is the presence of a new pile in your Playing area: the Rage Pile, which is formed during your turn. This pile is created drawing cards from your Asset Deck when certain conditions are met, like the entrance in game of a Wonder Card or the start of a new turn.

At the end of each turn, Volfyirion will make its move and the kind of cards that form the Rage Pile will decide what kind of actions it will perform. 

If you counter its actions carefully, you will be able to put it back on its lair and save your cities from its rage.

We don't want to reveal too much details yet, but we can assure that Volfyirion will be hard to defeat making this mode really challenging! Anyhow, soon we will share the Solo Mode complete rules with all of you, so stay tuned!

Unlocked Artworks and a surprise!

The Artbook design is final

Hey everybody!

Recently we announced that we were going to share with you a neat surprise, and many of you were really eager to know what that is about, so here it comes! We just finalized the design of the whole Artbook and we can finally share with you the results!

Below a preview link, so you can see how it is going to be once you have it in your hands.

The Art of Volfyirion also contains all Volfyirion's Lore, an interview with Travis Anderson and even the Graphic Novel "A Journey Into Mysthea". 

We decided to share with you a small preview of the first pages in PDF to give you a glimpse of it. In case you haven't, you can add the Artbook to your pledge on the pledge manager.

Talking about artworks, we have unlocked a lot of new artworks during the campaign that we haven't shown yet in higher resolution, so we decided to share some of them!

We are really happy about the game overall look, ad these artwork convey a unique theme and mood.

A small break for the holidays

We have decided to take a small break for the holidays so the whole team can have some well-deserved downtime with family and friends.  

Starting from today evening, our office will be closed for the winter holidays. If you need us, we'll be back and ready to answer all your messages and comments on the 2nd of January!  

In the meantime, we'd like to wish you a wonderful, relaxing holiday time. We will be back next year, refreshed and ready to go forward with this adventure!

Post-campaign Survey out this week!

Volfyirion's survey on Backerkit!

Hello backers!

We wanted to let you know that you will receive the surveys in the next days! 

If you are familiar with how BackerKit operates, it will first send the survey to the 5% of backers as a test to check if everything works fine and then, if no issues arise, it will be sent to the rest of you. Either way, keep an eye on your inbox since everything should be out quickly!

It will not be necessary to create a Backerkit account to fill out the survey. Instead you will just need to click on the survey link you will receive in your email address and respond.

In BackerKit you will be asked to fill in all the fields regarding your address for shipping purposes and you will be able to pay the shipping fees to your region. Additionally, you will also be able to get any add-on items you like. If you want to upgrade your pledge to another level, you will have the chance to do this too on BackerKit!

We will leave the survey open for a while. You can modify your selection and your shipping address until we lock everything down and charge your cards. Don't worry, when we will be ready for lockdown we will make an update announcing it!

• Additional Card Game: an additional copy of the card game if you want to play the four player mode.
• Additional Dragon Miniature: the 120mm Dragon Miniature along with the special rules and cards to use it on Mysthea and Icaion.

We are back

Hello everyone!

Lately we have been a bit off the radar due to the amount of work of the last two weeks. We spent entire days dealing with post-campaign matters as well as play testing all the new things we have unlocked! That is our routine these days :)

Name the cities

As you may remember we decided to name all the cities gathering suggestions from all our backers. We finally narrowed down the list to twelve cities names and now we need your help! Please fill in this form and let us know which names you would choose for the six cities.

What an engaged community

Some of our most excited backers decided to create a Discord server for all things related to Volfyirion! We visited it and there is a really nice environment with a lot of engaging discussions and cool ideas about our favorite dragon!
